Foam fire extinguishers — identified by their cream or orange label — are
the most commonly used fire extinguisher in Irish commercial premises. They
are effective on both Class A fires (ordinary combustibles) and Class B
fires (flammable liquids) — making them the most versatile general purpose
extinguisher for most commercial environments.
RFC supply, install and service foam extinguishers for commercial premises
across Dublin and Leinster. All installations comply with IS 291 and include
correct mounting, IS 291 compliant signage and a compliance certificate
issued on the same day.
🏢
Offices
Ideal for general office environments — paper, textiles and everyday combustibles.
🏪
Retail Premises
Suitable for retail units, shops and commercial spaces with mixed fire risks.
🏨
Hotels
Used throughout hotel corridors, bedrooms and public areas for Class A coverage.
🏭
Warehouses
Effective for warehouse environments with stored goods, packaging and flammable liquids.
Foam extinguishers work in two ways — they cool the burning material
and they smother the fire by forming a blanket of foam over the surface,
cutting off the oxygen supply. This makes them particularly effective
on Class B fires involving flammable liquids, where the foam blanket
prevents re-ignition.
AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) is the most common type used in
commercial premises in Ireland. AFFF foam forms a thin film over
flammable liquids that seals the vapours and prevents them from
igniting or re-igniting.
When NOT to Use a Foam Extinguisher
Electrical fires — foam is a conductor of electricity. Never use on live electrical equipment
Class F fires (cooking oil) — foam can cause a violent reaction with hot cooking oils. A wet chemical extinguisher is required
Class C fires (flammable gases) — foam is not effective on gas fires
Class D fires (flammable metals) — specialist dry powder required
Foam Extinguisher Sizes Available
RFC supply foam extinguishers in a range of sizes to suit all commercial premises:
2 litre — small offices, reception areas
6 litre — most common size for commercial premises
9 litre — larger premises, warehouses
Trolley-mounted — industrial and high-risk environments
